Today Is All About Air Conditioning Shopping
So my husband and I have been living in this home for almost a year now and we have decided that it is time that we upgrade some of our home appliances. The big one that we need to upgrade is the air conditioning system, I believe that the one we have now is around a 10 SEER, which really is not that energy efficient at all. Good thing now is that all of the central air conditioning systems that are made currently have to have a SEER of 13 or higher, I believe that it goes all the way up to 26 I could be wrong though.
Now we are not going to be able to afford a 26 SEER split system, but we are looking at some Goodmans that are in the 13-16 range. This system will be extremely energy efficient compared to the one that we are currently using. And it will be a split system, meaning that it will be both the heater and the air conditioning. The heater will be powered by electric, which is kind of expensive but there is one catch. That is that we live in Florida and will have absolutely no reason for heat!
Although there are some people here that choose to use their heat the couple times of year that it gets chilly here, not sure why. Anyway we are still shopping around and we know that we are buying brand new, that way we can get a 5 year warranty on it and have it professionally installed for even cheaper. We started looking around online and found some great split systems close to 3 grand. That doesn't include the duct work or anything though.
We had an Hvac Technician come out when we first got the house and he said that the ducts were in pretty good condition. Meaning that he did not find any leaky ducts, which I recommend everyone doing as if you have leaky ducts you are just throwing money away. I do not know about you but I need all the money that I can get these days, good work and jobs are hard to come by. Another reason that we have to replace the air conditioning unit, other than it is about 20 years old is that it makes such a racket. It is loud as hell and at night you can hear it clear as day when it is cycling on and off and makes it a pain in the ass too sleep.
The cool thing with the new energy efficient air conditioning systems is the higher the SEER is the more quiet the compressor runs. I know once you get up into the 20 SEER they are almost completely silent, but that would be nice to have one like that but for now that it is a little bit out of my budget. I think that I will just wait 10 years down the road when 20 SEER becomes a manufacturing standard, if it does that is I only know that it will continue to get more energy efficient.
That is all that I have today as I need to go back and start comparing prices. Purchasing an air conditioning system is a big deal, and if you jump into it too quickly you are going to get screwed out of money. Especially if you purchase a used system that does not have any kind of warranty. I personally wouldn't get any air conditioning system unless it had at least a 3-year manufacturer's warranty on it.
